Meet Trainer – Barrie Wilson

鈥淢y life鈥檚 greatest joy is when I have made a small difference in helping people empower themselves to move forward.鈥�

There are any number of challenges for those going into business, but they can be considerably more challenging if basic skills are lacking.

Barrie Wilson works with and teaches students in Business Studies helping them gain the necessary knowledge and skills to move confidently into business. They are mostly in the late teens and early 20s.
Barrie came from a successful career at management level with Woolworths managing first individual stores and later groups of stores.

鈥淓ven people who have a good start through education can find getting a job in business or starting-up a business overpowering and this is made worse for people with disadvantaged backgrounds. That said some of my most enthusiastic students are people from such backgrounds determined to succeed.鈥�

He said that some students from disadvantaged backgrounds did not have the kind of basic computer skills required for business and acquiring them through the Atwea course gave them confidence to move forward.
Barrie illustrates this point by relating a situation with a young woman student who when told she was capable of meeting a certain challenge answered saying she had never been told that before.
